India’s first flagship Häagen-Dazs® shop opens in New Delhi

An extravagant evening of fashion & indulgence marked the opening of the first flagship shop of the iconic brand Häagen-Dazs in India at Select CityWalk Mall, New Delhi, on 10th December’ 2009.

The glamorous launch event featured a live jazz & unique fashion show by the Indian designer duo Gauri & Nainika Karan that is inspired by the flavours & signature recipes of Häagen-Dazs. The exquisite table gowns were designed to serve Häagen-Dazs’ innovative creations of Chocolate Journey, Flower Passion & the classic Chocolate Fondue. The ambience was electrifying when Gauri & Nainika Karan took center stage with Ekta Chaudhary, Miss India – Universe, who wore a wine colored, velvety ensemble that complemented the sophisticated elegance of the Häagen-Dazs brand.  “We are so excited that Häagen-Dazs is here,” Gauri said “Our inspiration comes from the creativity of Häagen-Dazs’ innovative creations & rich flavours.”

Celebrities from the historic capital’s social, business & entertainment scene celebrated the unveiling of the first Häagen-Dazs shop by Mr. Anindo Mukherji, Managing Director, General Mills India, and Mr. Gaurav Jain, Director - RTC Restaurants & Franchisee of India’s first Häagen-Dazs shop. Among attendees at the lavish opening were fashion designers Malini Ramani, Harmeet Bajaj & Prashant Verma; supermodel Feroze Gujral; restaurateur A.D.Singh; Amrish Kumar, son of acclaimed fashion designer Ritu Kumar; Raj Jain president & CEO (India) of Bharti-Walmart;  Malvinder Singh, chairman, CEO & MD of Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd., and Bill Pinckney,CEO & MD of Amway India.  

The first Häagen-Dazs shop in India is a reflection of Häagen-Dazs’ commitment to innovation, natural goodness and sophistication. The 1800 square-feet shop is designed on the latest Genesis concept. A creative layout with a three-sided open café format with gold mesh curtains parcels the space, and the separate level with different seating arrangements inspires mood options. The shop is running on the Global EPOS system, the first to be rolled out for a franchisee shop in the world.  The   shop offers Häagen-Dazs’ signature recipes & flavours, including  Belgian Chocolate, Choc-choc-chip, Coffee, Vanilla, Chocolate, Mango Sorbet, Cappuccino Truffle, Raspberry Sorbet, Strawberries Cheese Cake, Summer Berries & Cream, Mango & Passion fruit, Vanilla Caramel Brownie, Cookies & Cream, and Strawberry, along with patisserie selections of cookies, muffins, brownies, and pastries. A wide range of Illy coffee and other beverages are also served.

“We are not selling ice cream, but a lifestyle,” Anindo Mukherji, Managing Director, General Mills India, said at the opening gala.

In the morning of the launch, food writers and food critics embarked on a ‘Häagen-Dazs journey’– a gourmet tour and insight into the world of Häagen-Dazs and why it is the world’s favorite luxury ice cream, led by Mr. Trevor Pickard, director of Häagen-Dazs Shops International. Every Häagen-Dazs ice cream contains only the finest and purest ingredients from around the world, like vanilla from Madagascar and chocolate from Belgium. These ingredients are blended together gently so each scoop of this dense and creamy ice cream melts slowly for long-lasting enjoyment.
